5/16/16: Violence in the workplace isn’t something most of us want to think about, but it’s far too common and prevention requires a proactive approach. An article published by Kroll titled “Threat Management and Workplace Violence: Considering a Threat Assessment Team” offers help in taking that preventive step. “A formal, multidisciplinary Threat Assessment Team may become one of an organization’s most valuable resources, helping it address the widest variety of threats, in the most effective ways.” The article then goes on to describe the recommended Threat Assessment Team.
As an aside, a hefty publication released by the FBI digs deeper into the topic of workplace violence and offers some very good information about topics including the importance of communication and training. If you aren’t prepared to plow through the entire 80-page report, check out the section “Preventing Violence; Planning and Strategy Issues” beginning on page 18. Especially worthwhile are sidebars 3 and 4 (pages 32-34), which offer a real life example, as well as what works and what doesn’t work.
