1/31/19: In a recent post, Kaplan references a column in Wired UK by Dan Ariely, a respected behavior ethicist, who describes an approach he developed to tackle inherent conflicts of interest. In the column, Ariely compares the inherent conflicts of interest in a traditional insurance company with “anti-conflict of interest” in an alternative model.
Kaplan admits that “… making the cash register ring …” is likely a challenge for companies pursuing the alternative model but the post leaves open the hope that ethical behavior and competitive advantage are not enemies.
