Menu5/8/18: Small businesses are intended to be beneficiaries of government contracts. While most fraud cases involve large schemes, this one involves small business – proving that there’s risk of fraud anywhere in government contracting. According to DOJ’s charges, the charged individuals operated construction companies with straw owners who did not qualify under the small business program for government awards. Earlier in the month, four additional defendants were charged in connection with the scheme and now face prison time as well as hefty penalties.
