1/31/19: Intellectual property theft, national security and the Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei have been in the news lately – individually or collectively. On January 28 Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker tied them all together when he announced national security related charges against Huawei.
A grand jury in Seattle returned an indictment alleging 10 federal crimes by Huawei Technologies affiliates. Beyond describing the alleged crimes, the announcement gives insight into DOJ’s thinking about the intersection of national security and intellectual property theft.
