12/3/18: Nowhere does public trust play a more important role than in the field of medicine. A recent article published on JAMAnetwork and titled, “Institutional Conflicts of Interest and Public Trust” directly addresses the independence of medical researchers.
The authors point to inconsistent policies among research institutions and universities toward individual and institutional conflicts of interests. The article challenges organizations in the medical research community to address the inconsistent and ensure an industry-wide standard that warrants public trust.
