"Self-Cleaning" Corruption

9/15/15: If you commit a crime once, is it inevitable that you’ll continue with the same behavior? In the world of public procurement in the European Union, the answer has been “yes” and the solution has been to ban a company guilty of bribery and corruption from participation in any public contract...That approach didn’t offer much incentive for change. Last year’s Directive 2014/24, which has an April 2016 implementation deadline for member states, creates a new approach that gives companies convicted of bribery or corruption a second chance.  The FCPA Update released by law firm Debevoise & Plimpton contains several articles of interest, but head to pages 21-25 for “How Companies Can ‘Self-Clean’ Corruption, Thanks to EU Reform.”
