"SEC Champions Whistleblower Protection"

-

5/13/2015: Speaking before the Garrett Institute at Northwestern University’s School of Law, SEC Chair Mary Jo White focused on the past four years of the Commission’s whistleblower award program. Okay, so the topic might not rank high on the list of exciting subject matter, but White’s speech was definitely worth the price of...listening. She specifically addressed retaliation against whistleblowers, saying “… we are very focused at the SEC on cracking down on such misconduct. In 2014, we brought our first retaliation case and, this month, our first case involving the use of a confidentiality agreement that can impede whistleblowers from communicating with us.” White acknowledges that the case has “… generated some controversy …” and goes on to explain the Commission’s thinking. It’s worth knowing.
