Menu9/15/14: This may not come as a huge surprise, but it appears that recent studies confirm the connection between gifts or money from healthcare companies and decisions by healthcare providers and even regulatory decision-makers. According to a recent study, there was a “powerful correlation” between the voting behaviors and...financial interests of nearly 1,400 FDA advisory committee members when considering a product up for review. Not shocking but on his Conflicts of Interest blog, Jeff Kaplan reports something that is at least surprising, “Nevertheless, some physicians ‘believe that they should be responsible for regulating themselves.'” Not likely. Kaplan’s post gives a good overview of the issue and provides links to several studies and reports.
