"Alstom Pays Largest-Ever FCPA Criminal Penalty"

1/6/15: When you get into the hundreds of millions of dollars, “largest” takes on a whole new meaning. French energy and transportation company Alstom S.A. recently pleaded guilty to charges of violating the books and records provisions of the FCPA. The plea was met by a penalty of more than $772 million, making it the largest-ever criminal...penalty under the FCPA. Alstom was guilty of multiple, all-too-familiar actions noted by the DOJ and SEC in other cases.  An article in the National Law Review noted, “the corrupt conduct of Alstom personnel and agents, though noteworthy in its breadth and length of time, has the hallmarks of a textbook FCPA case …”
